V P Singh to attend Pak High Commission tea party

Former prime minister V P Singh will attend the 'high tea' organised by Pakistan High Commissioner Ashraf Jehangir Qazi in honour of President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday.

Singh, along with Shoaib Iqbal, president of the Delhi unit of Janata Dal (Secular), will attend the tea party as part of the People's Front.

"We don't view the tea party as a political issue," Iqbal said referring to Qazi's invitation to the Hurriyat Conference for the party.

Iqbal quoted Singh as saying that Janata Dal (S) president and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda would not be able to attend the party as he was leaving for the US.

Earlier, the ruling National Democratic Alliance had announced its decision to boycott the tea party in protest against the invitation to the Kashmiri separatist conglomerate.
