The security forces resumed searches of houses and vehicles and frisking of passengers across the valley, reports said in Srinagar.
A report from Baramulla in north Kashmir said that security forces cordoned off Vernar, Kursoo, Kupwara, Sogam, Saderkote, Gulgam, Kralpora, Aathra, Watergam and Hari.
All the villages were sealed by the forces and house-to-house searches were launched since early morning, to nab militants.
The reports said that all vehicles were being searched at various places and men, women and youths were being frisked by the security forces.
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced a unilateral ceasefire on the eve of the holy month of Ramzan from November 28. The ceasefire was later extended till May 31.
Almost all militant organisations rejected the ceasefire and intensified attacks on security force patrol parties and their camps.
However, there was so no report of firing or shelling by Pakistani troops on the border, which remained largely peaceful during the six-month ceasefire.
