Panja to organise dissidents into party

Dissident Trinamul Congress leader, Ajit Panja, on Tuesday said that all party MPs, who openly supported the move to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance, would be invited to a meeting convened by him in Calcutta on June 30.

Asked if invitations would be extended to Trinamul MLAs, Panja, apparently moving fast to create a parallel outfit, said that he would take a decision in this regard after consultation with other leaders.

Some prominent party leaders, including Tapan Dasgupta, Bani Sinha Roy and Gautam Burman, had already crossed over to the Panja camp.

"We will send formal invitations to all those MPs who publicly stated that Trinamul should rejoin the NDA," Panja said.

His statement assumed significance in view of the fact that barring Trinamul chairperson Mamata Banerjee and party chief whip in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay, all other MPs had directly or indirectly advocated the need for Trinamul's return to the NDA.
