Militants ambush police party in Rajouri, 6 cops injured, 14 missing

Militants on Friday afternoon ambushed a police party near village Manjakote in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir critically wounding six policemen while 14 others are missing.

A senior police officer told rediff.com by phone from Jammu that the police party had gone to village Gandermouglan on Friday afternoon where militants had on Thursday night killed two persons - Abdul Majid and Mohammad Bashir.

After visiting the spot, the policemen were returning to Jammu when they were ambushed near village Manjakote.

Militants hurled grenades and opened heavy fire on the policemen injuring six of them. The injured have been shifted to hospitals.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rajouri and Poonch range), along with army columns, has reached the spot to trace the missing policemen.
