Congress, Trinamul talks inconclusive

Seat sharing talks between the Congress and the Trinamul Congress for the assembly elections in West Bengal remained inconclusive Friday night, but both sides said that they were heading towards a positive outcome.

''We have had extensive discussions. We have moved forward positively,'' AICC general secretary in charge of West Bengal affairs Kamal Nath told newspersons after the three-hour long meeting in Calcutta.

Expressing happiness about the 'good developments,' Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee said, ''The talks will conclude in a day or two. The message should go to the people that a united fight is necessary against the CPI-M.''

Nath said that the talks would continue Saturday and after that he would submit a report on the discussions to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Asked whether any agreement had been reached over the number of seats each party would contest, Nath said, ''Numbers are not important. What is important is that the present Left Front government, which had done nothing for the people in its 24 years of rule, must go.''
