Police open fire at two places in WB, CPI-M supporter killed

A Communist Party of India (Marxist) supporter was killed in a bomb attack, while police opened fire in Berhampore and Malda to disperse unruly mobs in West Bengal, where 40 per cent votes were cast till late afternoon on Thursday.

Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee told newsmen that a CPI-M supporter was killed when bombs were hurled at him at Kumarpara in Khardah constituency by "Trinamul Congress activists."

Director General of Police R C Sharma said the CPI-M supporter was passing by a Trinamul Congress polling camp when bombs were thrown at him. Three persons have been arrested in this connection.

Sharma said police opened fire to disperse unruly Congress workers, who smashed two electronic voting machines at a booth in Berhampore in Murshidabad district.

Police fired two rounds in Malda also to separate two clashing groups.

However, nobody was injured in the firing, Sharma added.
