Decision on extension of
J&K ceasefire on Wednesday

The meeting is expected to discuss the assessment of the ground situation in the state by Union Home Minister L K Advani and Defence Minister Jaswant Singh, who had chaired the Unified Command meeting of the army, para-military forces and state police in Srinagar on Saturday, sources said in New Delhi.

Bouyed by recent 'successes' on the diplomatic front by calling all Kashmiri groups to participate in talks for restoration of peace, the Centre is contemplating extension of the ceasefire for the fourth time, possibly by three months, the sources said.

National Democratic Alliance constituents had on Monday night asserted that there should be no let-up in the fight against terrorism in the state but left the decision on extension of the ceasefire, due to expire this month-end, to the CCS.

The ceasefire, which came into effect in November last year, has been extended three times.
