The Crime Investigation Department commenced interrogation of Anita Sen, prime accused in the child adoption racket, on Tuesday.
Anita Sen, wife of Additional Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen, was taken into police custody on Tuesday, after she was discharged from Osmania general hospital, where she was under treatment for a cardiac problem since May 24, when the ninth metropolitan magistrate ordered her police remand for six days.
As soon as she was discharged from hospital, she was taken away by CID officials to their office, for interrogation.
"We have taken her into police custody after obtaining the court's consent on Tuesday. She was interrogated for some time," a CID official said and pointed out that she was being produced before the metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday with a requisition for fresh police remand for five days, to complete investigations.
Anita Sen surrendered to the court on May 19, in connection with a criminal case filed against her for illegally running the adoption home Precious Moments, from where 61 infants and children were rescued by the Child Welfare Department last month.
The CID also arrested and interrogated her associate Sarita.
The CID officials searched Anita Sen's residence on Tuesday and seized some incriminating documents, in connection with the child adoption racket.
The CID also summoned Anita Sen's sons Stephen and Monty last week and this week, and interrogated them in connection with allegations that they had accompanied some children, who were given away in adoption to the United States.
"The CID is probing the case from all angles and pursuing certain clues. All facts are being examined. Those involved are being interrogated and it will take some time to complete the probe," sources pointed out.
