In yet another case of ragging, four students of Osmania University's College of Technology in Hyderabad were arrested by the police on Thursday on the charge of harassing a fresher.
A case was booked against the accused under clauses 3 and 4 of Section 4 of the Andhra Pradesh Prevention of Ragging Act at the Osmania University police station.
The four accused have been identified as Srinivas, Santosh, Raghuram Gupta and Sukhender, all second-year B Tech students.
Another student O Nagaraju, who was initially taken into custody, was let off later when it was found that he did not have any role in the ragging incident.
The police said that the victim - a first year B Tech male student - was taken to Room No 6 in the OU engineering students hostel on the university campus by the four senior students at around 2100 hours (IST) on Wednesday night.
He was forced to strip, hold his private parts and perform antics like a monkey. He was made to remain nude and salute his tormentors, who even tried to abuse him sexually before being let off.
Around midnight, the victim was found crying in front of his hostel by a passer-by who escorted took him to the Osmania University police station on the campus where he narrated his traumatic experience and lodged a formal complaint.
The victim told the police that he had arrived on the campus on November 5. He had been subjected to physical and mental harassment by senior students in various ways even before the stripping incident on Wednesday night, he said.
The police immediately swung into action and took the accused into custody.
