MiG-21 crashes in Rajasthan, pilot killed

An Indian Air Force MiG-21 crashed after it caught fire mid-air near Pilobanga village in Sriganganagar district, killing the pilot, a police report said in Jaipur on Tuesday.

The pilot had taken off the aircraft around 2010 hours on Monday on a routine exercise from the Suratgarh IAF air base but all of a sudden the plane caught fire in mid-air and crashed, the report said.

Fire fighting personnel were pressed into action by the district administration. The body of the pilot has not yet been retrieved. A search for the body was on in the forest area, the report added.
