Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday ruled out early assembly election in the state saying it cannot be held before September and that there was 'no urgency' for the exercise.
The chief minister said that his government had the mandate till October nine this year, the day when the state assembly's term expires.
"We have got the mandate till October nine. We shall not go for elections before that day," he said, indicating the polls could be held sometime in late September or first week of October.
Abdullah said that the preparation of the electoral list has to be sorted out, before the electoral exercise can be started.
Abdullah also said that the next meeting of the Union Cabinet would review the security environment of Jammu and Kashmir.
