Pursue case against Advani, Joshi, Bharti: Congress

The Congress on Thursday demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government issue a fresh notification in the Ayodhya Babri masjid demolition case to pave the way for prosecution of Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and Union Ministers Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti.

The demand was made by Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tewari in a letter to Chief Minister Mayawati.

Tewari told reporters in Lucknow that he reminded the chief minister that she, along with the Congress, had raised the issue in the House when Rajnath Singh was heading a BJP-led coalition government in the state.

Both Congress and BSP had urged the then government to issue a fresh notification rectifying the legal defect pointed out by the Allahabad high court.

The Supreme Court has also directed the Mayawati government to take a decision on this issue within eight weeks, he said.

Tewari has sought the resignation of the three Union ministers on moral grounds.
