Ladakh Union Territory Front wins both seats in Leh district

The newly floated Ladakh Union Territory Front bagged both seats from Leh district even before a single vote could be cast in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election.

Its nominee, Nawang Rigzin, remained the only candidate in the fray from Leh constituency after two of his rivals withdrew from the contest on Saturday.

Independents Ahmadullah Azad and Tsering Dorje announced their withdrawal from the contest in favour of Rigzin, sources said.

Earlier, the Front's Sonam Wanchuke Narboo virtually won the Nobra seat in the district, as no other candidate had filed nomination papers.

However, Narboo and Rigzin would be declared elected only after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations expire on September 2, they added.
