"How can we be called stubborn if we want to stand by the date we had announced a year ago?" VHP vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore told 'Aaj Tak' news channel from Kolkata.
He, in turn, accused the Babri Masjid Action Committee of being stubborn from the very beginning as they were not ready for talks.
"We (VHP) are not a party to the case. My land does not come under the court's jurisdiction," Kishore said referring to Vajpayee's observation that 'the only course left to resolve the imbroglio now is to await the court verdict'.
Taking a firm line, the VHP chief said, "We will try to accomplish the work (construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya) and are ready to go to jail, if necessary in the course of our crusade."
In 1992, it was demolition, but now 'there will be construction', he said.
About the VHP's actions violating the laws, he said, "We acknowledge the laws of the land. But, are they applicable only on us and not on anybody else?"
