The Samajwadi Party on Friday announced Ram Rati Singh as its candidate for the Mirzapur Lok Sabha constituency by-poll, slated for next month.
Umed Singh, husband of slain party MP, Phoolan Devi, who filed his nomination Thursday, is in the electoral fray as an independent candidate and had nothing to do with the SP, a party spokesman said.
The Mirzapur seat had fallen vacant following the murder of Phoolan Devi in New Delhi last year.
