With the RLD demanding 60 seats and the BJP is not prepared to concede more than 35, the seat-sharing talks appeared deadlocked and Vajpayee stepped in to sort out the issue, BJP sources said.
Singh, who had on Thursday announced that his party would be fielding candidates in 42 assembly constituencies later had a meeting with the BJP's UP unit chief Kalraj Mishra to resolve the issue of seat-sharing, the sources said.
The overlapping seats are Bijnor, Kundarki, Hasanpur, Khekra, Morna and Bikhapur.
