India and the United States on Tuesday agreed to work together to ensure that incidents like the attack on the American Center in Kolkata do not recur and that lives of innocent persons were not put at risk.
The Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and the US Ambassador Robert Blackwill agreed on this when the former had a telephonic talk with the diplomat shortly after the morning attack, according to a US Embassy spokesman.
The spokesman said the US embassy, consulates and American Centers except at Kolkata were functioning as usual.
"We are of course open to business," he said, adding that appropriate security measures have been taken following the incident.
The US has expressed its deepest sympathies to the families of those killed and injured in the incident.
Earlier, speaking at the India Today conclave Advani said that the government would get to the bottom of the incident.
"I condemn this morning's incident. I hope we will be able to get to the bottom of it," Advani said.
Stating that he had spoken to the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, Advani said there was information that a group involved in the recent kidnapping of a Kolkata businessman had claimed responsibility for the incident.
He said a senior member of the group had called up the CID claiming responsibility and said that he was calling from Dubai.
Talking of Indo-US relations, Advani said that he had returned from the US 'extremely satisfied' and that there was much common in the thinking of the two countries.
The bonds were not because of any 'ad hoc situation', but due to common commitment to rule of law, secularism and democracy, Advani said.
