USIS attack: Cops detain 50 in search for gunmen

Kolkata police chief Sujoy Chakraborty on Wednesday morning said that around 50 people have been detained in connection with the ongoing investigation into Tuesday's terrorist attack on United States Information Service office in Kolkata.

He added that two Bangladeshi nationals and an Islamic scholar, who he refused to identify, are among those taken into custody.

He also said that security has been stepped up at eight diplomatic missions, including the consulates of Britain, France, Russia and the United States.

"The Calcutta police are not equipped to deal with such attacks but we are doing our best," Chakraborty said.
