Indian-Americans have expressed outrage at the attack on the American Cultural Center in Kolkata by terrorists with links to Pakistan, and questioned the sincerity of Islamabad's contention that it is withdrawing support to extremists.
The ambassador-at-large for people of Indian origin, B K Agnihotri, who had meetings with several groups of Indian-Americans, said: "Everyone described it as an outrageous act that needs a strong response."
Agnihotri said it was an attack against India and the United States. He told the agitated Indian-Americans that the government was in control of the situation and would take appropriate action.
The president of the Indian National Overseas Congress, Dr Surinder S Malhotra, said it was time that India acted firmly, as President Pervez Musharraf had proved that he was not serious about reining in terrorists operating from Pakistan.
"His words cannot be taken on face value and the latest attack proves that he is indulging in double talk," he said.
"There is a limit for everything, and with the attack on the US center in Calcutta, they have crossed the limit," he said.
