The Nalanda police on Monday arrested a lawyer and a notary for attesting signatures on an affidavit, which helped USIS centre attack accused Dubai-based Farhan Malik in procuring a passport from the Patna regional passport office.
Lawyer D Singh and notary Suresh Prasad, Biharsharif residents who practiced in the Patna lower court, were taken to Nalanda for further interrogation.
A broker in the Patna passport office Mohammad Akeel has also been arrested. Akeel is a resident of Bagnabad locality in Biharsharif, the headquarters of Nalanda district.
A police team from Nalanda will visit Patna on Tuesday to interrogate the passport office employees instrumental in preparing Farhan's passport.
In his passport, Farhan claims to be a resident of Biharsharif though he had never visited the place.
Earlier, a retired sub-inspector of the Bihar police, Ram Raj Ram, was picked up from his native village in Bhojpur district.
Ram was supposed to verify the antecedents of Farhan Malik. He was than posted in the Biharsharif police station.
Ram Raj Ram told interrogators that he had signed the verification certificate at the behest of the clerk of the then deputy superintendent of police Ziauddin Ahmed.
In turn, Ahmed said that he simply signed Farhan's application form, which a junior police officer had placed before him.
It is likely that some heads will roll once the investigations are complete.
Meanwhile, the Nalanda police have found out that the two persons killed in an police on Monday got their driving licences from Biharsharif.
Another person involved in the shootout, Mohammad Ibrahim, also reportedly got his driving licence from Biharsharif.
