Bandopadhyay walked out after stating his party position opposing the bifurcation of Eastern Railways to create the East Central Railways zone (headquartered at Hajipur), Trinamool Congress sources said.
They said the Trinamool MP was supported by some other MPs from West Bengal, who, however, did not walk out.
Party chief, who was tipped to join the Vajpayee government, is said to have backed out after being denied the railway portfolio, which is being held by the Samata Party's Nitish Kumar.
