Bhattacharjee to meet Advani to
discuss bifurcation issue

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Wednesday rang up West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee to seek his opinion on the proposed bifurcation of the Eastern Railway.

The bifurcation, which will create a new East-Central zone with its headquarters in Hajipur in Bihar, is being opposed by the Trinamool Congress and the Left parties.

The West Bengal assembly, in fact, had passed an all-party resolution opposing the move.

An all-party delegation from the state is also scheduled to call on the prime minister on July 9 to register their protest.

Bhattacharjee, who is scheduled to attend a CPI-M politburo meeting in New Delhi, told newsmen at the state secretariat that he would be meeting Advani on Friday.
