"Why review or withdraw the notifications to set up seven new railway zones, including the one at Hajipur? The decision was taken as per law and after meticulous study," Kumar told reporters in Patna.
Kumar said the decision to create new zones was taken by the Union Cabinet.
He had explained in detail to Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani the rationale behind creation of new railway zones in accordance with the cabinet decision, the minister said.
"If required I will meet him again," Kumar said adding "I am unhappy that some political parties of West Bengal are unnecessarily raking up the issue of bifurcation, which is purely a technical and administrative decision of the railways to enhance its efficiency."
Kumar asked the political parties of West Bengal to desist from creating an unnecessary controversy over the issue.
Kumar pleaded ignorance of any plan to either set up a group of ministers or an expert committee to find an amicable solution to the issue raised by the Trinamool Congress, which is demanding withdrawal of the notification to bifurcate the Kolkata-headquartered Eastern Railways.
As far as the railways was concerned, the matter was closed, he said.
