A special court in Mumbai on Thursday heard an audiocassette which the prosecution claimed contained a telephonic conversation between Pakistan-based gangster Chhota Shakeel and four film personalities -- one of them actor Sanjay Dutt.
The cassette was played in the presence of lawyers, the accused and reporters in the court.
The prosecution had on Wednesday examined a witness, who said the cassette was seized in his presence.
The court of designated judge A P Bhangale is hearing a case against film financier Bharat Shah, producer Nasim Rizvi, his assistant Abdul Rahim Allah Baksh and Dubai-based hawala operator Mohammed Shamshuddin. The four have been accused of using slush funds to finance films.
Besides Dutt, the 45-minute cassette, according to the prosecution, has filmmakers Harish Sughand, Sanjay Gupta and Mahesh Manjrekar talking in detail about film financing to underworld don Chhota Shakeel. The conversation, the court was told, was recorded on November 14, 2000.
