Did Vice President Krishan Kant die in his sleep, at his home? Or did he die in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences?
Those close to the late vice president are asking the question.
Vijay Goel, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, says Krishan Kant was rushed to the AIIMS at 7.30 am Saturday, when he failed to wake up from his sleep.
"The doctors at the institute told me that he died between 3 and 4 am," Goel, representing the PMO at the vice-president's residence, told the media.
It was Goel, along with the vice-president's son Rashmi Kant, who brought the body back home, around 11.15 am.
Asked if the vice president was dead on arrival at AAIMS, medical superintendent Dr Ravi Sharma said the ECG showed no sign of life.
"He was brought to the institute around 7.38 in the morning. Heart specialists attended to him immediately. Our first ECG was totally flat, and did not show any graph. We used all facilities at our command in an attempt to revive him, with no success. At 8.40 am we gave up," Dr Sharma told Rediff.com.
Asked whether Krishan Kant had died in his sleep, Sharma said, "At this point I can say nothing, I have to go through the records. He was accompanied by a doctor, who should know more about it."
Goel, meanwhile, said Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would arrive at the Krishan Kant's residence this evening to pay homage.
