"At 1945 hours, Madhya Pradesh was drawing an extra 500 MW. We disconnected four lines of their lines at Itarsi and Beena. Despite this, they were drawing an extra 300 MW," Singh said.
"We sent them warnings and written messages. Drawing of extra power brought down the grid frequency to a low of 47.8 hertz and the grid is bound to collapse at this frequency," he explained.
"Rampant indiscipline by Madhya Pradesh led to the collapse. If they have a suicidal mentality what can we do," he said.
Mumbai is still being supplied with 2000 MW of power through the network of the Tata Electric Company and BSES, he said.
Restoration of the grid would require 20,000 MW of power of which we have already brought in 2,500 to 3,000 MW into the system, Singh said.
Claiming that power supply would be restored to all essential services in the next two to three hours, Singh said the system would be brought to normalcy by Wednesday morning.
