Cong-NCP MLAs leave for Mumbai

About 105 Congress and Nationalist Congress Party MLAs left Bangalore for Mumbai on Wednesday evening by a special aircraft.

These MLAs, part of Vilasrao Deshmukh-led Democratic Front government in Maharashtra, will play a crucial role when the DF government faces a confidence motion in the state assembly on Thursday.

Congress sources said the legislators, who were kept in a private resort to prevent them from crossing over to the opposition Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party camp, were taken to the airport in three buses.

The MLAs called on Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna prior to their departure.

The Congress had dispatched about 50 of its MLAs to the city by a special flight from Mumbai on June 6. They were joined by NCP MLAs on June 8.

Deshmukh and his deputy, Home Minister Chaggan Bhujbal, visited the city a few days back and held a strategy session with the legislators.

Maharashtra Governor P C Alexander has set June 13 as the deadline for Deshmukh to prove his majority.
