131 karsevaks arrested in Mumbai

One hundred and thirty-one karsevaks on their way to Ayodhya were arrested at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus) in Mumbai on Saturday when they were about to board the Pushpak Express, police said.

The karsevaks were arrested under different sections of the Bombay Police Act.

They raised slogans against the police and said they were determined to go to Ayodhya.

Tight security was in place at the station where police pressed dog squads into service to look for suspicious objects.

The railway authorities have stopped issuing platform tickets and only bona fide travellers were allowed to enter platform 14 from where the Pushpak Express was to leave.

But Mohan Salekar, joint secretary of the VHP's city unit, claimed that some 500 activists had already left for Ayodhya by the same train and four more batches would leave next week.
