Security in Jammu and Kashmir has been tightened following the incidents in Gujarat.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in Jammu, where the Vishwa Hindu Parishad had called for a bandh on Saturday. The strike evoked a favourable response with traffic remaining off the roads. Shops and business establishments were also closed.
"We are maintaining a strict vigil. We have made adequate security arrangements to maintain peace," a police officer said.
In Kashmir, the bar association took out a procession on Friday to protest against the violence in Gujarat.
On Saturday, the association had called for a strike, which evoked a partial response in Srinagar. Traffic was plying on the roads, though some shops remained shut.
