VHP says it will go ahead with its plan

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Sunday said it would go ahead with its plan to shift the carved stones to the Ramjanmabhoomi site at Ayodhya on March 15.

VHP international working president Ashok Singhal told media persons after an emergency meeting of the outfit that top Hindu religious leaders would meet in the New Delhi on Monday to discuss 'obstructions' in the smooth conduct of the ongoing Purnahuti Yagya at Ayodhya.

He, however, said that Ramchandra Paramhans of the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas on Monday would give a detailed stand of the VHP on the Ayodhya dispute.

Singhal said that the VHP would continue its efforts to remove the 'obstacles' in the way of the temple construction.

"This is all I can say today, Ramchandra Paramhans will give you a detailed briefing tomorrow (Monday), please don't ask my anymore questions on the issue," Singhal said.

Asked whether the VHP leaders and sants would meet the prime minister on Monday, Singhal said, "We will decide it tomorrow (Monday) and only if we get a dignified invitation."

The VHP chief also appealed to the countrymen 'and the followers of our sacred dharma' to maintain peace and harmony.

"I request you to be vigilant to thwart any and all internal and external threats to the security of this nation," he said.

Earlier on Sunday morning, VHP leaders held talks with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh top brass as part of the ongoing efforts to end the impasse in Ayodhya.

RSS Joint General Secretary in-charge of BJP affairs, Madan Das Devi, and his colleague S V Seshadri briefed Singhal at the Jhandewala headquarters about their talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Saturday evening, Sangh sources said.

The leaders also discussed the current situation in Gujarat and Ayodhya.

RSS, which is mediating between the VHP and government on the issue, had announced on Saturday that Hindu religious leaders would be meeting Vapjayee and Advani in a day or two and a solution satisfactory to both sides would be found.

Vajpayee had sought RSS intervention in the wake of the Godhra killings and VHP's threat to shift the carved pillars to the Ram Janmabhoomi site on March 15.
