VHP denies proposal to resolve Ayodhya dispute

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Vishwa Hindu Parishad vice-president Giriraj Kishore denied on Tuesday that there was any proposal from the government for a solution to the Ayodhya dispute and insisted that the organisation's programme to start constructing a Ram temple remains unchanged.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Kishore reiterated the VHP's resolve to transport construction material to the 'undisputed' land in Ayodhya on March 15 if the government fails to come up with any solution by that date.

He repeated his demand that the government remove all restrictions on the 'Ram sevaks' entering Ayodhya.

He also wanted the government to hasten the cases pertaining to the dispute pending before the Allahabad high court on the basis of documentary evidence.

According to Kishore, the VHP wants Hindu-Muslim tensions to ease, and giving the 'undisputed' land in Ayodhya to his organisation would help this cause.

He pointed out that both the senior shankaracharya of Kanchi, Swami Jayendra Saraswati, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are mediating with the government to find a solution to the dispute, "but no proposal has been made to us so far."
