VHP commitment positive: Muslim Law Board

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Thursday night termed as 'positive development' Vishwa Hindu Parishad's commitment to abide by a court verdict on the disputed site.

The Board, however, said that the outfit should not be allowed to carry out its plan to shift the carved stones to the 'undisputed' site on March 15 without reaching an agreement on it.

"It (VHP's commitment) is a positive development. It will certainly make a difference," Board spokesman S Q R Illyas said.

The Board had threatened to pull out of the peace moves initiated by Kanchi Shankaracharya after VHP leader Acharya Giriraj Kishore said on Wednesday that the Sangh Parivar outfit had not given any commitment to abide by the court verdict.

Illyas said that the Board at its emergency executive committee meeting called on Sunday to discuss the proposal to allow the VHP to construct the Ram temple at the undisputed site would discuss 'all options'.

"We may make some suggestions. We may suggest some alterations or even another formula," he said.

He, however, demanded that the government should not allow the VHP to shift the carved stones to the 'undisputed site without reaching an agreement'.

"The government should stop VHP from going ahead with its plan or else we will be forced to take a restrain order from the Supreme Court," Illyas said.

VHP chief Ashok Singhal had announced on Thursday that VHP will 'proceed' with its March 15 plan, albeit in a 'peaceful, cheerful, joyous and blessed atmosphere'.
