Symbolic 'bhoomi pujan' on
undisputed land: Kanchi seer

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

A symbolic bhoomi pujan will be conducted on the undisputed land in Ayodhya on March 15, the Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati said on Friday.

Talking to newsmen on his return from Delhi and Gujarat, the seer, who mediated in the Ayodhya dispute, said the puja will be a low-key affair and the Supreme Court's permission will be sought for it.

The seer said at a later date the 'clear' land, which is not involved in any court case and over which clear title exists in the favour of the temple trust, will be handed over to the trust before the June 2 deadline fixed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

This, however, will be done only after talks with various religious groups and political parties, the Shankaracharya said.

Representatives of the Muslim Personal Law Board, whom the Shankaracharya met in New Delhi, have agreed to peace formula. "They will hand over relevant letters to the Centre on March 10 and March 13," he said.

All parties to the dispute have also agreed to abide by the court verdict on the disputed site, the Shankaracharya added.
