March 15th programmes to go ahead: Paramhans

Ram Janambhoomi Nyas chief Mahant Ramchandra Paramhans on Friday declared that "all programmes" planned for March 15 would be carried out.

"All programmes of March 15 will go on as scheduled," Paramhans said after a meeting with Minister of State for Home I D Swami in Ayodhya.

No programme has been suspended, he said.

When asked to comment on the government's reported move to allow a "symbolic" puja in the undisputed area, he said: "If true, it is a good news. But we don't need permission from anyone to pray."

He said some prominent scholars would converge on Ayodhya on March 15 and participate in prayers.

On his Delhi sojourn, Paramhans said he had come with assurances that the restrictions imposed in Ayodhya would be lifted and the 100-day yagna would be allowed.

"I returned only after getting such assurances. Otherwise, I would have started a fast there only," the mahant of the Dighambar Akhara said.

On his talks with Swami, Paramhans said: "I clearly said that the fortress-like situation in Ayodhya should be ended immediately and all restrictions lifted. Karsevaks are not terrorists."
