Restrictions continue in Ayodhya

Restrictions imposed in Aydhya in the wake of the VHP's planned programme to have a 'bhoomi puja' on March 15 remained in force with continued suspension of train services, despite an announcement by Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami that the curbs would be lifted from Saturday.

Swami, after a meeting with religious leaders, including Ramjanambhoomi Nyas president Ramchandra Das Paramhans, on Friday announced that train services would be resumed from Saturday and restrictions imposed in the town would be eased with immediate effect.

However, district administration officials in Ayodhya said they have not yet received any written orders.

"We have not received any instructions as of now (on easing of restrictions)," Divisional Commissioner A K Gupta said.

Even train services remained suspended.

Gupta said prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code would continue to be in force till the authorities receive orders.
