Kanchi Seer sends written proposal to Muslim Board

In a significant move, Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati on Saturday sent a written proposal for solving the Ayodhya tangle to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board ahead of its crucial executive committee meeting on Sunday.

"We have received this evening (Saturday) a written proposal from the seer urging us to allow the Ram Janambhoomi Trust to construct the temple on the undisputed land in lieu of the their agreeing to abide by the court verdict on the disputed site," Board spokesman S Q R Illyas said.

He said that under the proposal the VHP would build a boundary wall around the disputed site, where the Babri mosque stood before its demolition, prior to beginning the temple construction work.

Illyas, however, said that the Board has not yet received a copy of the written undertaking given by the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas to the government to abide by the court verdict on the disputed site.

Over 70 members besides special invitees would be attending the day-long meeting on Sunday, he said.
