VHP, Bajrang Dal activists from Gujarat headed for Ayodhya

VHP's state unit general secretary Dilip Trivedi and Bajrang Dal's Gujarat chief Ranchodbhai Bharwad in a joint statement on Sunday said the selected batch would be headed by senior VHP leader Hareshbha Bhatt.

Meanwhile, barring a stabbing incident in Rajpipla town of Narmada district, the situation in Gujarat, which witnessed an orgy of communal violence since February 28, was on Sunday normal.

Indefinite curfew was imposed in the Rajpipla town after a man was stabbed to death by a group of people.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the violence after the attack on Sabaramti Express at Godhra on February 27 last, rose to 651.

In Ahmedabad city alone, the toll has risen to 287 with the recovery of 12 more bodies on Sunday, police said.

Life in parts of the state was limping back to normal but a fear psychosis gripped the violence hit areas of Ahmedabad city, Mehsana, Kheda, Sabarkantha, Godhra (Panchmahal), Dahod district areas, official sources said.

Vehicular traffic was thin on the highways and other district areas as people stayed away from trade and business in the most affected areas in south, central and north Gujarat even after a week of uncertainty.

Over 70,000 people affected by the violence had been taking shelter in different relief camps.

In Ahmedabad city, night curfew remained in force in Vejalpur, Bapunagar, Rakhial and Gomtipur areas.

Curfew is gradually being relaxed in other places, including Godhra, Baroda, Surat and other towns, police added.
