Singhal arrives in Ayodhya with govt nod

Setting at rest speculation whether he would be allowed in Ayodhya given the tension building up over the proposal 'symbolic puja' on March 15, Vishwa Hindu Parishad international president Ashok Singhal arrived on Monday evening armed with a clearance from the Uttar Pradesh government.

Singhal, escorted by a posse of security men, went straight to karsevakpuram on his arrival.

The permission to Singhal was granted after he met Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnukant Shastri in Lucknow on Monday morning seeking clearance for his Ayodhya visit to oversee the preparations for the shila pujan.

Singhal's visit assumes significance in view of the March 14 meeting of VHP's Marg Darshak Mandal to chalk out strategy for the March 15 programmes, just two days after the Supreme Court's expected ruling on bhoomi pujan on March 13.
