UP taking all precautions for March 15

In a bid to prevent assembly of Ram sevaks in Ayodhya on March 15, the Uttar Pradesh administration is conducting search operations in temples, ashrams and other areas along the bank of the Saryu river.

Additional Director General of Police (law and order) A K Mitra on Monday said that about 50 Ram sevaks were apprehended from the Majha area (the areas along the Saryu) and sent back to their homes in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Uttaranchal and Gujarat on Sunday night.

Mitra said in 1990 and 1992 thousands of karsevaks had "hid in Majha and other areas in the adjoining districts of Ambedkar Nagar, Gonda, Basti, Barabanki, Sultanpur and Baharaich and converged on this holy town, catching the administration unawares".

"We are fully prepared to meet any such possibility and we will ensure that no build up of Ram sevaks takes place," Mitra said.

The authorities in as many as 19 adjoining districts have been directed to "set up temporary jails and district magistrates have been given the powers of additional inspector general (prison)", Mitra said.

Besides, state transport buses have been requisitioned to transport the arrested Ram sevaks, he said.
