My arrest would not be in
anyone's interest: Singhal

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Monday said the shila pujan would be performed near the disputed site in Ayodhya on March 15 as planned and asked Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to lift restrictions imposed in the temple town.

Reacting to the prime minister's assurance that the government would abide by the Supreme Court verdict on the planned shila pujan, VHP international working president Ashok Singhal told reporters that there was no mention of the apex court in the Shankaracharya of Kanchi's formula for resolution of the Ayodhya standoff.

On his way to Ayodhya to oversee the preparations for March 15, Singhal said the ceremony would be performed as planned by the Dharam Sansad.

In reply to a question, Singhal said he knew nothing about any move to prevent him from reaching Ayodhya. "My arrest would not be in anyone's interest," he said.
