NDA upholds government's decision
to implement verdict

The National Democratic Alliance on Wednesday upheld the government's decision to implement the Supreme Court's verdict regarding maintenance of status quo at the acquired site in Ayodhya.

The NDA was confident that the government would take all steps to see that the court's order was implemented in letter and spirit, a resolution adopted at a two-hour meeting of the alliance said.

The alliance appealed to all parties to abide by the judgment, NDA convenor George Fernandes said.

"We had a free and frank discussion in a most cordial atmosphere," he added.

Trinamul Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who was critical of Attorney General Soli Sorabjee's stand in the court that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad should be allowed to conduct puja at the acquired land, did not attend the meeting. The defence minister said she was not available on phone.
