VHP's religious leaders to meet on Thursday

A meeting of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad-backed Mandir Nirman Samiti on Thursday will chalk out the strategy for the outfit's programme in the temple town on March 15.

The meeting of the dharmacharyas (religious leaders), scheduled to begin in the evening, will discuss the modalities for the programme in the wake of the Supreme Court's directive to maintain status quo at the government-acquired site, sources said.

Ram Janambhoomi Nyas president Ramchandra Das Paramhans said many religious leaders were being prevented from attending the meeting.

VHP leaders had announced on Wednesday that the court order was not against its programme of performing a bhoomi puja at the acquired site.

The Uttar Pradesh government, however, said it would strictly enforce the directive.

A total of 95 companies of paramilitary forces besides local police are maintaining strict vigil in the town.

Vehicles without official passes are being stopped at Barabanki, 95 km away from Ayodhya.
