MP moves privilege notice against judges in Lok Sabha

Sheesh Ram Singh Ravi, who represents Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, was referring to an exchange between Rajya Sabha member and senior advocate R K Anand and the SC bench.

R K Anand, appearing for the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee, time and again interrupted the submissions of Attorney General Soli Sorabjee, who was appearing on behalf of the government.

The bench finally observed: "This is no Parliament Mr Anand, that you can interrupt anybody at any time. Allow the attorney to speak and you will get time when the court requires your assistance."

In his notice, Ravi said the judges had shown 'disrespect to the highest seat of democracy' by their remarks.

Meanwhile, both Houses of Parliament are likely to sit on the next two Saturdays to make up for the time lost in the first phase of the Budget session due to frequent disruptions.

This was decided at the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) on Thursday, Parliament sources said.

With just seven working days left, the government may even consider extending the session by a day if the Motion of Thanks to the President's address is not passed by March 22.

Government also intends to take up the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Bill, sources said.
