Faizabad commissioner willing to
accept shila

Sharat Pradhan in Ayodhya

Faizabad Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar Gupta on Thursday said he was willing to accept one shila (carved stone) on March 15 from Ram Janambhoomi Nyas president Ramchandra Das Paramhans.

The statement comes a day after the Supreme Court verdict asking the government to maintain status quo at the acquired site in Ayodhya,

"I am willing to receive the carved stone from Paramhans, provided it does not violate the order of the Supreme Court," the commissioner, who was also the official receiver for the entire 67 acres of land acquired by the Centre in 1993, told rediff.com

"I will not mind even going to the camp of Paramhans to accept the shila daan (stone offering) in my capacity as receiver," he said.

"Such a step from my side would not even remotely infringe the Supreme Court order, and if it can help to defuse the prevailing crisis, I do not see anything wrong in my taking the initiative," he said.
