VHP wins, anti-Hindu forces lose: Togadia

Vishwa Hindu Parishad international secretary-general Praveen Togadia on Friday said that the successful completion of the 'shila daan' ceremony on schedule constituted a victory for the forces of Hinduism.

'Shila' refers to a carved stone pillar meant for the proposed Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Reading to the media from a prepared statement, Togadia said, "Today, the VHP overcame all obstacles sought to be placed in its path, and successfully completed the 'shila daan' on deadline."

"Mahant Ramchandra Das Paramhans of the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas completed the 'shila daan' puja and formally handed over the 'shila' to Shatrughan Singh, in-charge of the Ayodhya Cell in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). At the same instant in time, in Ramkot immediately adjacent to the Ram Janambhoomi, the VHP established an identical 'shila' and carried out the puja, exactly as we had already announced."

"Those anti-Hindu forces that had tried to put obstacles, both legal and otherwise, in the way of Hindu aspirations have been frustrated," Togadia announced.

Togadia said that today's ceremony in Ayodhya was one more step towards the VHP's proclaimed goal of constructing a Ram temple at the Janambhoomi.

"The breaking of the locks, the 'shilanyas', the destruction of the Babri structure, and now the official handing over of the 'shila' to the central government representative of a symbolic beginning to the construction, are important steps towards our overall objective," Togadia said.
