Singhal's hunger strike enters second day

Vishwa Hindu Parishad international president Ashok Singhal's indefinite strike entered the second day on Monday.

Singhal went on a hunger strike on Sunday to press his demand for security for the karsevaks arriving in Ayodhya and their safe return home.

VHP sources claimed that Singhal was feeling 'weak'. However, doctors attending on him said that his condition was 'normal'.

Meanwhile, several VHP workers sat on a day's dharna at the collectorate in Faizabad in support of Singhal's demand.

Meanwhile, with the resumption of the road services to Ayodhya, normalcy was fast returning to the town, even as batches of karsevaks continued to pour into the town.

Though security barriers set up for the last several days have not been removed, incoming vehicles were not being subjected to checks. Official sources said that restrictions would be lifted in phases.
