Contempt proceedings against PM dismissed

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the ground that the shila daan on March 15 in Ayodhya, away from the disputed site, violated court orders for maintenance of status quo.

A three-judge Bench headed by Justice G B Pattanaik severely criticised petitioner Mohammad Aslam Bhure for trying to aggravate the situation when everybody was trying to defuse it.
