CPI-M MP Bipal Dasgupta has demanded that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee immediately dismiss Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Satyabrat Mukherjee for allegedly making international calls to known sex chat numbers at the expense of the public exchequer.
"I have sought an appointment the prime minister on Wednesday to discuss my demand," Dasgupta told rediff.com on Tuesday minutes after coming out of the joint session of Parliament.
The Rajya Sabha member had earlier in the day released his letter to the prime minister, which gave details of his allegation, to the media.
Dasgupta did not rule out the possibility of someone else having misused the phone in the minister's office or residence to make the calls.
"But how is it that the minister never came to know about it? Did he pay the phone bills without cross checking?" Dasgupta asked.
"It is not a question of just one call. Several calls were made on a single day, and this has been happening for the last three years. On a particular day, as many as thirty-four calls were made to several numbers," he alleged.
Satyabrat Mukherjee was not available for comment.
