Six BSP MLAs to be sworn in with Mayawati on Friday

Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati will be sworn in as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the third time on Friday heading a coalition government amidst indications that six BSP MLAs would also take the oath of office.

Mayawati on Thursday told a BSP legislature party meeting in Lucknow that six party MLAs would be sworn in as ministers on Friday, party legislators told waiting mediapersons after the meeting at the BSP headquarters.

She said that the ministry would be expanded in three weeks after proving its majority in the assembly, party sources said.

Mayawati apprised the members about the circumstances in which the party forged an alliance with the BJP, they said.

She also issued directives to the legislators about their role in the BSP-BJP-led coalition government and asked them to work for the upliftment of the deprived sections of society, they added.

Union Ministers L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and BSP supremo Kanshi Ram are likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony, besides several other state level leaders of both the parties.

Mayawati will be the 28th chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and the third person to assume the office thrice.

Opposition parties - Samajwadi Party, Congress, Rashtriya Kranti Party and the CPI-M - have decided to boycott the swearing-in ceremony.

Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements are being made at the sprawling La Martiniere college grounds for the ceremony.
