Hurriyat rejects Vajpayee's talks offer

The All-Parties Hurriyat Conference on Thursday rejected Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's offer for talks with the separatist amalgam dismissing the move as an attempt to 'fish in the desert'.

Hurriyat Chairman Abdul Gani Bhat, while rejecting Vajpayee's offer for talks, said, "Why indulge in fishing in a desert?"

Shortly after attending a meeting of the Unified Command, Vajpayee said he was ready to meet anyone and the Centre has already extended an invitation to Hurriyat through its interlocutor on Kashmir, K C Pant, but ruled out involvement of Pakistan in the exercise.

Bhat said the talks would lead nowhere without Pakistan's involvement.

"We don't want a dialogue for pleasure sake," he added.
